Bugs, Big Bugs

Summer is here in Okinawa, and so are the bugs.  For some reason I am enjoying taking pictures of the big bugs.  The kids love finding the bugs for me.  Here are some of our finds.

Cicadas
You know the summer is here when the Cicadas wake you up in the morning with their loud noise.  It's all you can hear when you walk out our front door.  They are LOUD.  Also be careful because if you get to close to their tree they will dive bomb you.  The smaller picture is when they shed off their skin to grow bigger. The kids like to collect these and hang them on my sunflower plant.

Metallic green beetle
I found him on my plant outside.

This little guy was hungry.  It ate holes in my sunflower leaves.

Longhorned Japanese beetle
I love the black and white design of this one.

This crab Mike found one night after a downpour.  We think it crawled up from the ocean.

We have LOTS of little snails crawling everywhere.  They like to live on our outside walls and windows.  This one was crawling down our slider.
